Books About Business Contact Manager

I'm Lon Orenstein and I wrote the books on Business Contact Manager - all of em!  I'm very excited about Business Contact Manager and pinpointtools is throwing its efforts squarely behind this great new version of BCM.

My
Outlook 2007 Business Contact Manager For Dummies (Wiley Publishing, ISBN 978-0-470-10789-8) will hit the stores in March 2007 (click the link above to pre-order this book at amazon.com).  This book gives you all the details, step by step, how to use Business Contact Manager 2007 to keep track of contacts, accounts, sales opportunities, business projects, marketing campaigns, mail merges, tasks, and appointments - all from within Outlook 2007 and all working with the rest of Microsoft Office 2007.

I've also written eBooks - electronic Books - that will help you with topics I didn't cover in detail in the Dummies book.  These eBooks are free for you - we just ask for your real name and email address so we can stay in touch with you.  No spamming, we won't sell your name, and we promise to communicate with you responsibly!  Check out all the books below and check back soon for more topics.

Moving from ACT! to Outlook Business Contact Manager 2007

I started using ACT! version 0.7, as a beta tester in 1986.  I started my ACT! consulting business full time in 1990.

In 1991, I was the first guy in the first class to pass the ACT! Certified Consultant (ACC) test, so I call myself the first ACC.

I spent the 90's consulting and implementing ACT! into companies of all sizes, in all different industries, in many different countries, and single handedly trained thousands of ACT! users, both in person and over the internet. I really know ACT!.

I started writing AddOn software programs for ACT! in 1993 and have been one of the leading developers ever since.

In the immortal words of Saturday Night Live's Chico Esquela, "ACT! been berry berry good to me" and I've been berry berry good for ACT!.

Now, for the first time since 1986, I am not using ACT! to keep track of my contacts and calendar. Big change, but necessary...the decision was painful, like getting a divorce or going through the death of a friend. Even worse, I had to learn a new system "on the fly" because like you, ACT! ran my life and my business and I had to have a system to which to migrate. So, I wrote this eBook to help people through the transition.

Here is what you'll learn from Moving from ACT! to Outlook Business Contact Manager 2007:
  • What is BCM and what will you like and dislike about it compared to ACT!
  • Recommendations on whether to move or not, then a strategy for making the move as painless as possible
  • A thorough discussion of which data will migrate from ACT! into BCM and which method of converting the data you should choose
  • Terminology differences between ACT! and BCM -- ToDos become Tasks, for example, and Notes are handled completely differently
  • How to "think BCM" instead of ACT!
  • How to modify your daily doings so you're taking advantage of Outlook and BCM
  • I'll even tell you old ACT! for DOS guys which keystrokes you can use to make Outlook and BCM jump to attention!
  • This eBook is for any version of ACT! moving into BCM 2007 - see below for ACT! 6.0 moving to BCM 2003

Moving from ACT! 6.0 to Outlook Business Contact Manager 2003

I really recommend you upgrade to Office 2007 and Business Contact Manager 2007 specifically.  However, for those of you who are still on ACT! 6.0 (or prior) and don't want to move to BCM 2007, here's my original eBook, Moving from ACT! 6.0 to Microsoft's Business Contact Manager 2003, published in February 2006 and just updated.

This will give you a similar idea of what life is like on the BCM side of the world and what it will take to convert your ACT! 6.0 data into BCM 2003.  Please note, there are some real limitations in moving data into BCM 2003 that they've improved in 2007:  you may have to do two imports to get most of your data, you can't import an ACT! 2005-2007 database, and there is no way to add fields to the BCM database to map those custom fields you added to your ACT! database.
